Before the incident
Employee was sweeping the back of the house after the manure belts had been ran. He was facing the cage rows with his back to the rear wall and sweeping debris into the pit at the end of cage row 4 when he stepped on the end of one of the boards that covers the manure pit with his right foot.
What happened
The board was apparently not seated in the track properly and reportedly flipped up resulting in the employee 's right leg going down into the pit and him striking his right lower side and back against the side of the board right of the displaced board as well as the opening framework that is lined with cement. The employee claims he could not see the board out of place due to the amount of dust dirt and organic material covering the floor. It is likely an employee on the manure belt team lifted the board to monitor the belt and when he placed it back in the track there was feed dirt and manure in the track.
