Production Supervisor [REDACTED] was in [REDACTED] 23 when a feed chain malfunctioned and became jammed in the front drive unit on Row 2 Cage level 5. As a result the designed shear pins broke to prevent further damage to the components. The supervisor decided to repair the rear shear pin in the rear drive prior to repairing the chain malfunction in the front drive unit. According to the Supervisor he climbed up and stood on the 2nd level of the cage systems feed trough straddling the isle with his on two cage rows where he was at eye level of the drive unit opened the front protective guard and reaching behind the drive sprocket to align the pin holes of the sprocket with the drive hub in order to input a new pin and drive out the broken pin from the back of the hub. The Supervisor stated reaching behind the sprocket helped him align the holes and he was able to catch the broken pin as it came out avoiding the pieces falling into the feed line.

The supervisor states that as he was performing this work the drive sprocket rotated about 1 8 of a turn in the reverse direction entrapping his left middle finger in the pinch point of the sprocket teeth and the upper portion of the chain striper. Unable to free his finger the employee used his radio to get assistance from his Managment team who gathered the required comealongs and maintenance personnel to relieve the tension enabling the Supervisor to free his finger.
