What happened
Very agitated patient moving his arm during IV attempt. Brief period of blood-let during the securement of 16 g IV. Blood from the IV catheter dripped down my left-handed glove and onto the site of an open cut broken skin along my wrist. Immediately cleaned with alcohol prep pads and hand-washing upon arrival to the ER. Patient initially reluctant to answer questions about blood-borne disease but then apologized and confirmed he was clean.
