Employee was helping clean up blasting media and washing down area with wash water.

What happened

Their task was to remove blasting media from the ground which accumulated during normal paint blasting operations. The employee was assigned to return to the point of work and use a water hose to wash down the area and push remaining media into the storm trench. During this task he stepped on grating covering the trench. The grating fell into the trench causing his right foot to go into the trench causing him to contact water with unknown chemicals. The grating did not break but rather fell into the trench. It is still unclear how this happened and there was no mention of missing grating in the JSA or hazard assessment. As a result the employee 's right foot was dampened when the water in the trench got into his leather boot. He notified the operator and reported directly to the nearest safety shower where his boot was removed and the foot and lower leg were rinsed for approximately 20 minutes.
