Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which was free from
recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees, in that the controls
for overhead jib hoists #7 and #8 located in the molding department were
not labeled as to their
functions:
a.St. Marys Foundry, Inc. located in St. Marys, Ohio:  On or about June
29, 2006, the
#7 jib hoist located in the molding department did not have its controls
labeled as to their
function.
b.St. Marys Foundry, Inc. located in St. Marys, Ohio:  On or about June
29, 2006, the
#8 jib hoist located in the molding department did not have its controls
labeled as to their
function.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this
hazard
is to
ensure the controls are labeled as to their function according to ASME
B30.16-2003
"Overhead Hoists (Underhung) Safety Standard for cableways, cranes,
derricks, hoists,
hooks, jacks, and slings".

Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which was free from
recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees, in that employees
working in the foundry were exposed to potential splashes of molten metal
and struck by hazards
from the inadvertent overloading of charge buckets, transfer ladles, and
spreader bars due to the
lack of capacity markings on these lifting devices:
a.St. Marys Foundry, Inc. located in St. Marys, Ohio:  On or about June
29, 2006, the
charge bucket used to move up to 5,000 pounds of scrap, pig iron, and
punchings from
the preheater to the melting furnaces was not marked as to its capacity.
b.St. Marys Foundry, Inc. located in St. Marys, Ohio:  On or about June
29, 2006, the
#5 ladle used to transfer up to 11,000 pounds of molten metal from the
melting furnaces
to the pouring area was not marked as to its capacity.
c.St. Marys Foundry, Inc. located in St. Marys, Ohio:  On or about June
29, 2006, the
#10 ladle used to transfer up to 11,000 pounds of molten metal from the
melting furnaces
to the pouring area was not marked as to its capacity.
d.St. Marys Foundry, Inc. located in St. Marys, Ohio:  On or about June
29, 2006, the
spreader bar used in the B Core department to lift cores weighing up to
500 pounds was
not marked as to its capacity.
e.St. Marys Foundry, Inc. located in St. Marys, Ohio:  On or about June
29, 2006, the
spreader bar used in the C Core department to lift molds weighing up to
800
pounds was
not marked as to its capacity.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this
hazard is to ensure the
under the hook lifting devices are labeled according to ASME B30.20-2003
"Below the hook
lifting devices".
In accordance with 29 CFR 1903.19(d), abatement certification is required
for this violation
(using the CERTIFICATION OF CORRECTIVE ACTION WORKSHEET), and in addition,
documentation demonstrating that abatement is complete must be included
with your
certification.  This documentation may include, but is not limited to,
evidence of the purchase
or repair of the equipment, photographic or video evidence of abatement,
or other written
records.
