Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to a struck by falling objects hazard: a)Stock Area: The hook of the Beech Manual lift hoist was not equipped with a safety latch, on or about 2/19/2010. ABATEMENT NOTE: Among other feasible and acceptable methods to correct this hazard is to equip the hoist hook with a safety latch as described in ANSI B30.16-2007. Section 16-1.2.9. A latch shall be provided to bridge the throat opening of the hook and retain, under slack conditions, such items as, but not limited to, slings and chains.
