29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): Types of guarding. One or more methods of machine guarding shall be provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks. Examples of guarding methods are-barrier guards, two-hand tripping devices, electronic safety devices, etc. On or about 04 August 2016, one or more methods of machine guarding was not provided to protect the operator and other employees while operating the Lift Table from hazards including ingoing nip points, and rotating parts where belt(s) ran over rollers. This exposed employees hands/fingers to crushing hazards. American Aluminum Extrusion was previously cited for a violation of this occupational safety and health standard or its equivalent standard 29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1), which was contained in OSHA inspection number 991139, citation number 1, item number 4 and was affirmed as a final order on 02/11/2015, with respect to a workplace located at 5253 McCurry Road Roscoe, IL 61073. Abatement documentation is required for this item in accordance with the requirements of 29 CFR 1903.19(d).
