29 CFR 1910.178(a)(4): Modifications and additions which affect capacity and safe operation of powered industrial truck were performed by the employer without the manufacturer's prior written approval: Forklifts were modified with coverings over the falling object protection (FOP) structure that obscured the line of sight above the vehicle. The covering may prevent the operator from seeing hazards above the vehicle such as low hanging wires or building structures. (a) Bay G2: Black screening material was placed on the FOP of a Clark model C35D fork truck, serial no. P232D-0743-9677 KF. (b) Vehicle parking area: Yellow screening material was placed on the FOP of a JLG model G9-43A material handler, serial number 0160043965.
