Employee was shortening the end-cut forks at shearing line #832

An employee was working on a set up at shearing line #832. The plant was shipped non-standard plate and needed to make non-routine adjustments to the line which required cutting 3 inches of waste material off the front of the sheet to get the plate to run. This required shortening the end-cut forks about 1 4. The employee positioned the forks vertically and stabilized the fork with his left hand while operating the angle grinder with his right hand. The employee was using a cut-off wheel on an angle grinder to shorten these half-inch diameter rods when the cutting wheel bound up. This resulted in the wheel shattering apart causing the employee to lose control of the grinder while part of the wheel penetrated through his cut resistant gloves and caused a laceration on his left hand between his thumb and his wrist. The employee was sent to the emergency room for treatment and received 5 stitches and a prescription for antibiotics making this a recordable injury.
