Working on the press set up

A Line Mechanic was working on a set up at the press on line 52. As the employee was holding the press chute in position the employee felt a metal sliver penetrate the employee’s cut & puncture-resistant glove and embed in the knuckle of the employee’s left pointer finger. When the Line Mechanic removed the cut-resistant glove the employee pulled out the sliver but it felt as if part of it was still embedded under the skin. After attempting to clear the sliver using a first aid device it was decided to have the employee examined at the emergency room. The hospital did not want to remove the embedded sliver. The employee went to the local Med Express and they would not attempt to remove the sliver either but prescribed an antibiotic. The employee is having a surgery center remove the sliver. On [REDACTED] the employee had the sliver surgically removed. The doctor wrote out a slip stating that the employee was not to lift any weight greater than 5 pounds for 2 weeks after the [REDACT
