A [REDACTED] program painter was assisting the scaffold builders due to his painting duties being shut down due to an outage in the caustic unit. While assisting the scaffold builders as the ground man he was asked to cut a notch out of a 1x2 ' piece of plywood. While cutting the board with the handsaw the blade became jammed. As it freed it slipped out of the groove. This caused the blade to contact the top of the employee 's left hand causing a laceration.
